What types of mental health support are students interested in?
We surveyed Blue Fever users to learn more about the types of support students are interested in or have already sought out, both online and offline. The survey results indicate that high school students are interested in a variety of support options. The most popular form of support was therapy, with 39% of respondents saying they had or would use a therapist. Other popular forms of support include talking to friends and or family (20%), using apps like Blue Fever (14%), and participating in support groups (10%).
A key theme from the survey is the importance of personal connections and relationships in supporting mental health. Many students said that they turn to their friends and sometimes family for support. Others mentioned the value of having someone to talk to who understands their struggles and can relate to them.
Another theme from the survey is the use of websites and apps as sources of support. Many students mentioned using apps like Blue Fever and Talkspace, as well as social media, to connect with others, find resources and advice, and have someone to listen to. Some students also mentioned using online support groups or anonymous journals to share their experiences and vent their emotions.
Overall, it is clear that high school students are seeking a wide range of support options. While therapy and personal relationships are important sources of support, students are also interested in using apps, like Blue Fever, to connect with others and find resources and advice. Blue Fever is on a mission to reverse the mental health crisis disproportionately affecting young people and students. It is important for educators and other professionals to recognize the diverse needs and preferences of high school students when it comes to seeking support for mental health.
