Letter from our CEO and Co-Founder
Growing up, I always wanted a big sister - someone I could relate to and who’d just get me. Instead, I had an older brother with special needs and overwhelmed parents trying their best to keep up. I minimized my troubles from those close to me to avoid burdening others, but it also made me feel alone and isolated.
It also gave me a strong intuition about who needed support and I became the big sibling support to many people in my life. When I saw how toxic and lonely it is to grow up online today, I wanted to create the very thing I needed years ago: an accessible, safe space that helps you express and become your authentic self. And so Blue Fever was born.
I’m not done growing up – I’m still a work in progress and use the app daily to check in with my feelings + feel inspired (no joke, I actually do). I hope you find our BF family to be where you can share anything happening in your life and get a little more energy for your day- because you know you’re not alone! Thanks for joining our corner of the Internet on this beautiful, messy life journey we’re on together 💙
Why we care
Our world is undergoing a mental health crisis and it is disproportionately affecting young people. Mental health is the springboard of thinking and communication skills, learning, resilience and self-esteem. Reversing this epidemic not only benefits young people themselves, but is a down payment on our future that will create social and economic returns for years to come.
The 73 million members of Gen Z in America are less satisfied with traditional behavioral health services and a majority report the first step in managing their mental health is turning to social media platforms that are never designed to deliver support.
Blue Fever is on a mission to reverse this epidemic by helping young people find the support they can’t find anywhere else online. We are starting with the 6 million teens who have persistent feelings of sadness and hopelessness that, when unchecked, has contributed to 3 million who experienced suicidal ideation. Supporting 3 million people is our north star metric for the next 2 years, with our first benchmark at 1 million. We are 30% of the way there.
We know this generation of young people has the lowest trust in the mental health care system and the highest rates of skepticism. So we focus our product experience on being a platform, not for being seen, but for feeling seen. When someone feels seen they are more likely to reach out for + trust life-changing and even life-saving support. Our product uses the power of self expression via 1:1 private chats with our empathetic AI, group journaling, positive peer support over negative peer pressure and technology that blocks toxicity and recommends based on emotional relevance, to create the most positively reinforcing community where people can be guided to the support they need.
We believe this will move the world forward in a space that is healthier, safer, and ultimately where you can grow into your truest, most authentic self.
We are technologists and empaths who have spent years building consumer products that have grown to over 300 million people and have driven key research and innovation in trustworthy and emphatic AI. We are pioneers in the nascent space of digital mental health and wellness, and we encourage you to join us.
