7 Ways to Shift to a Positive Mindset in 2023
No matter what age you are… it’s almost too easy these days to get caught up in a cycle of negative thoughts and emotions.
Whether you’re overthinking things like a friend’s snarky comment, an upcoming deadline or post-graduation decision, having more of a downer vibe day-to-day can take a serious toll on your mental health and overall well-being.
That said, heading into a fresh year (Happy 2023!!), it’s important to remember that YOU have the power to shift your mindset. And, yes it’ll take work–i.e. consistency, mindfulness, boundaries–but committing to making a shift can truly change your life.
Here are 7 tips to start shifting your mindset in 2023:
Practice gratitude 🙏 One simple way to shift your focus to the positive is by regularly expressing gratitude for the things you have in your life. This can be as simple as writing down a few things you're thankful for each day, or sharing them with a friend or family member.
Set goals + a doable path to make them happen! Having something to work towards can give you a sense of purpose and help you stay motivated. Start by setting small, achievable goals, and then celebrate your progress as you work towards them. *If you’d like an accountability friend group to help you on your journey, we’d love for you to join us in Blue Fever’s social self care community.
Surround yourself with positive people (+ content). The people you spend the most time with can have a major impact on your mindset and energy. Spend your time among supportive friends and mentors who are kind towards yourself and others, are motivated and have a similar outlook on life. Likewise, audit the content you read/watch throughout the day and UNFOLLOW anyone or anything that no longer aligns.
Care for yourself 🥰 No one else can take responsibility for your mental/physical wellbeing in the ways that you can. Check-in with yourself regularly, acknowledging both your physical health and mental health, and take actions to improve them at least a little bit each day. It all adds up!
Try/Learn new things to discover your most authentic self. Whether it's creating, playing a sport, or spending time in nature, make time for exploration to find things and communities that bring you joy. *This is a great way to meet likeminded friends throughout each stage of life.
Practice mindfulness consistently. Mindfulness is the practice of bringing your attention to the present moment, without judgment. It’s key to become aware of your non-serving thoughts and emotions, and is necessary to help you manage day-to-day stress + negativity. While there are many ways to practice mindfulness, such as meditation (e.g. Calm, Headspace), yoga (Yoga with Adrienne) or even group journaling in the Blue Fever app 😉– the point is to regularly practice giving your brain time to decompress (so you don’t get caught in a never-ending thought spiral of doom).
Seek help when you need it. It's okay to ask for help when you're feeling overwhelmed or struggling with negative thoughts. Talk to a trusted friend, family member, or mental health professional for support and guidance. Here are some of our go-to crisis resources.
By committing to practicing one or more of these strategies each week (if not each day), your mindset will begin to shift and you’ll set yourself up for your best year yet.
Wishing you your best yet in 2023 💙
