Top Social Networks Students Use For Mental Health Support
Many high school students turn to social media for mental health support and information. There are several reasons why students might choose social media over other options, such as the convenience, accessibility, and anonymity of these platforms.
We surveyed Blue Fever users to find out which social media platforms they use most often for mental health support. Blue Fever is an App on a mission to reverse the mental health crisis disproportionately affecting young people and students. The results showed that it was the most popular platform, with 29% of respondents saying they use it (it was our survey 💙).
Other popular platforms included TikTok (20%), Instagram (11%), and Discord (7%). Students also mentioned using Reddit, Pinterest, Snapchat, YouTube, Facebook, and Google for mental health support and information.
Some students mentioned using a combination of social media platforms and apps, such as Blue Fever and TikTok, or Instagram and Twitter. A few students also mentioned using online therapy or resources from the Trevor Project, and some mentioned using traditional support systems such as talking to friends or seeking help from a therapist.
Overall, it seems that high school students are open to using various social media platforms and apps for mental health support and information, as well as traditional support systems. It's important for students to find the resources that work best for them and to seek help when needed.
While social media can be a useful resource for high school students seeking mental health support, it's important to remember that it should not be the only source of support. High school students should be encouraged to seek out in-person support from trusted sources, such as counseling services or school nurses, in addition to using social media resources.
